Being Near Good People Lifts Old Sorrows Off You

ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਰਾਖੇ ਜਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
sarab niDhaan raakhay jan maahi.
All treasures have been placed within the minds of His humble servants.
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
taa kai sang kilvikh dukh jaahi. ||2||
In their company, sinful mistakes and sorrows are taken away. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Every treasure there is has been placed inside the hearts of those who serve the One. Just being in their company lifts old mistakes and sorrows away.

Just being near good people can lift old mistakes and sorrows off you.
The deeper layer

This one says good people carry a treasure, and being near them lifts old weights off you.

Sarab nidhaan raakhay jan maahi — every treasure has been kept inside the humble. Taa kai sang kilvikh dukh jaahi — in their company, kilvikh and sorrow go away. Kilvikh means the leftover weight of past mistakes.

The verse says the weight leaves. It does not say how. One gentle way to hear it: nobody is being punished here. Being near people who carry that treasure simply lifts the old weight.

Think of a heavy backpack at the end of a long school day. A good friend walks beside you, and somehow it feels lighter.

A Question to Sit With

Whose company always seems to leave you lighter than before?
