Between Remembrance and Company, Fear Loses Its Footing

ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
har simrat pooran pad paa-i-aa.
Meditating in remembrance on the Lord, the state of perfection is attained.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਭੈ ਭਰਮ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
saaDhsang bhai bharam mitaa-i-aa. ||3||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, fear and doubt depart. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Keeping the One in mind, a person arrives at wholeness. And in the company of the seekers, fear and doubt quietly dissolve away.

Between inner remembrance and good company, fear and doubt lose their footing.
The deeper layer

Remembering the One inside, and sitting with good people outside, together make fear and doubt fade.

Har simrat pooran pad paa-i-aa — remembering the One, I reached the pooran pad. That means the state of being whole and complete.

Saadhsang bhai bharam mitaa-i-aa — in the saadhsang, the company of the holy, bhai and bharam were wiped away. Bhai is fear. Bharam is doubt, the confused feeling of not knowing what is real.

Two things work together here: remembrance inside you, and good company around you. Think of walking home in the dark. Knowing the way in your head helps. Walking with friends helps too. With both, fear and doubt lose their footing.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel both settled inside and surrounded by good people, what happens to your worries?
