In plain words

By great good fortune, I receive the humble, grounding gift of the dust of the feet of the holy. Meeting the guide, my heart falls in love with the One.

The whole journey leads to one moment: the heart falling in love with the One.
The deeper layer

This one says the whole shabad leads to one moment: the heart falling in love.

Sant Dhoor paa-ee-ai vadbhaagee — by great good fortune, one receives the dust of the feet of the sant, the holy ones. To sit in their dust is to be humble enough to learn from them. Naanak gur bhaytat har si-o liv laagee — meeting the Guru, liv with the One takes hold. Liv means loving attention, being wrapped up in someone you love.

Liv laagee, love catching hold, is where the whole shabad was going. Think of a new friend you slowly spend more time with. One day you notice you love them. The shabad builds toward that moment, when the heart simply falls in love.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you slowly grew to love the more you spent time near it?
