Some people do unkind things and then put on a show to look good, hoping no one will notice. But the truth of who we are can't stay hidden forever — inside the wideness of the One, everything is finally seen for what it is.
This one says pretending to be good cannot last. Who we really are shows in the end.
Karai duhkaram dikhaavai hor — someone does wrong and shows something else. Duhkaram means bad deeds. The verse's picture is strong: a chor, a thief, caught and baaDhaa, tied up, in the court of the One.
The point is honesty, not fear. It is about pretending versus being real, what Gurbani calls sach, truth. Think of a puddle with a thin skin of ice on top. It looks like solid ground, but it cannot hold for long. Sooner or later, what is really inside comes to light.
When have you noticed that pretending is harder to keep up than just being honest?
