Being Real All Through Is Met With Gentleness

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
antar saach naam ras raataa.
Those whose inner beings are true, who are attuned to the ambrosial essence of the Naam, the Name of the Lord
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੭੧॥੧੪੦॥
naanak tis kirpaal biDhaataa. ||4||71||140||
- O Nanak, the Lord, the Architect of Destiny, is merciful to them. ||4||71||140||

In plain words

But look at the one who is true inside, whose heart is soaked in the sweetness of the Name. To that person the One, the shaper of every life, is gentle and kind.

Being real all the way through is met with gentleness — honesty is its own reward.
The deeper layer

This one ends with hope: the One is gentle with the person who is real all the way through.

Antar saach naam ras raataa — true inside, dyed in the sweet taste of the Name. Saach means real, true. Raataa means dyed, like cloth soaked in color until the color is part of it. Naanak tis kirpaal biDhaataa — Nanak says, to that one the biDhaataa, the shaper of every life, is kirpaal, kind and merciful.

After all the talk of pretending, the shabad lands on the person who is real inside and out. The One meets them with gentleness. Think of a friend who is the same with you whether others are watching or not. You trust them. Being real brings its own reward: it is met with kindness.

A Question to Sit With

What feels good about being the same person on the inside as you show on the outside?
