ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
laal rang pooran purakh biDhaataa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Love of the Beloved, the Architect of Destiny, is perfect. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

A mind soaked in the love of the One becomes real and true. That deep red color of love — belonging to the One who shapes every life — is perfect and complete.

Being soaked in real love is what makes a mind true all the way through.
The deeper layer

A mind soaked in love for the One becomes true all the way through.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Har rang raataa so man saachaa — a mind dyed in the One's love is saachaa. Saachaa means true and real.

Laal rang pooran purakh bidhaataa — the deep red love of the Beloved, the Bidhaataa, is perfect. Laal means deep red, the richest and longest-lasting dye. Bidhaataa is the One who shapes every life.

Think of a pencil compared to a crayon. A pencil is colored only on the outside. A crayon is the same color all the way through, no matter how far down you wear it. Being colored by this deep love is what makes a mind like that crayon: real all the way through, not just painted on the surface.

A Question to Sit With

What makes a person feel real and true to you, rather than fake or surface?
