Verse 3 of 5

Love Sung in Good Company Never Fades

ਸੰਤਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥
santeh sang bais gun gaa-ay.
Sitting in the Society of the Saints, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
taa kaa rang na utrai jaa-ay. ||2||
The color of His Love shall never fade away. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Sit together with good and true people and sing the praises of the One. A color soaked in that way — in good company and shared song — never fades or leaves you.

Love sung together in good company is the kind that never fades.
The deeper layer

Love that is sung together, with good people, is the kind that never fades.

Santeh sang bais gun gaa-ay — sit with the good and holy and sing the praises of the One. Taa kaa rang na utrai jaa-ay — then that color never fades.

The shabad tells us how the dye gets set. It happens in sang, which means company, and in gun gaa-ay, singing praises together.

Think of a campfire song with friends. You remember it for years, far longer than a song you heard alone once. Love that grows together, out loud and in good company, is what makes it hold its color.

A Question to Sit With

What do you love more because you share it with others rather than keeping it to yourself?
