Grace Loosens the Knots and Gives You a Hold

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੋਟ ॥
kar kirpaa parabh banDhan chhot.
Granting His Grace, God has released me from bondage.
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਕੀ ਦੀਨੀ ਓਟ ॥੩॥
charan kamal kee deenee ot. ||3||
He has given me the Support of His Lotus Feet. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Grace reached me and loosened the knots that had me tied up inside. It gave me something gentle and sure to hold onto — like resting at the feet of someone completely trustworthy.

Grace loosens the inner knots and gives you something trustworthy to hold.
The deeper layer

Grace loosens the knots inside and gives you something safe to hold on to.

Kar kirpaa parabh bandhan chhot — showing grace, God set me free from bondage. Bandhan are the inner knots of craving, fear and ego. Kirpaa, grace, is what sets you free here.

Charan kamal kee deenee ot — the One gave me the shelter of the lotus feet. Charan kamal, "lotus feet," is Gurbani's tender picture for taking refuge in the One. It means closeness and shelter, not actual feet. Think of a little child holding on to a parent's hand in a crowded place. That is the picture: near, held, and safe.

A Question to Sit With

What is a knot inside you — a worry or a habit — that you would love to feel loosen?
