The Real Hero Is the One Grace Lifts Up

ਹਰਿ ਧਨ ਕੋ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
har Dhan ko vaapaaree pooraa.
Those who deal in the Lord's wealth are perfect.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੇ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸੂਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jisahi nivaajay so jan sooraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Those who are honored by the Lord are the true spiritual heroes. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The one who trades in the wealth of the One is truly rich inside. And whoever the One lifts up and honors — that person is the real hero, brave in the way that matters most.

The real wealth is inner, and the real hero is the one grace lifts up.
The deeper layer

The real hero is the one the One lifts up.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Guru Arjan uses words from the market. Har Dhan ko vaapaaree pooraa — the one who trades in the One's wealth is complete. A vaapaaree is a merchant. The best thing to invest in is inside you.

Jisahi nivaajay so jan sooraa — whoever the One honors, that person is a true hero. A sooraa is a hero. But here, being brave is not about beating anyone. It is about being nivaajay, blessed and honored by grace, and living from that.

Think of a kid picked for a team because the coach saw their heart, not because they were the loudest. Worth like that is given. It is not grabbed.

A Question to Sit With

What does being "brave" mean to you — and is there a quieter kind of brave than the loud kind?
