Love His Nearness and Lesser Comforts Go Quiet

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
charan kamal si-o laagee pareet.
One who is in love with the Lord's Lotus Feet,
ਆਨ ਸੁਖਾ ਨਹੀ ਆਵਹਿ ਚੀਤਿ ॥੩॥
aan sukhaa nahee aavahi cheet. ||3||
does not think of any other comforts. ||3||

In plain words

Once your heart falls in love with the nearness of the One, no other comfort even crosses your mind.

You have found the one thing that truly satisfies.

When you love the nearness of the One, lesser comforts simply stop calling to you.
The deeper layer

When you love being near the One, smaller comforts stop tugging at you.

Charan kamal si-o laagee pareet — love has fastened onto the charan kamal, the "lotus feet." That is a picture of the gentle nearness of the One. Aan sukhaa nahee aavahi cheet — no other comforts even come to mind.

Other joys are not forbidden. They just are not needed anymore. Think of a kid at a birthday party with their best friends. They forget all about the video game waiting at home. The bigger joy quietly outshines the smaller one.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever been so happy that you stopped wanting the things you thought you needed?
