Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whether I am getting up or lying down to sleep, the One is right beside me, keeping watch like a faithful guard. With that presence in mind, even the fear of death loses its sting.

The One keeps watch beside you, waking and sleeping — so even fear itself loses its grip.
The deeper layer

This is the Rahao. Oothat sovat har sang pahroo-aa — the One as pahroo-aa, a watchman, present through rising and sleeping alike. The literal's jam nahee daroo-aa ("no fear of Death's messenger") is handled gently: the comfort foregrounded is constant companionship, so that even death is disarmed of dread by a presence that never leaves.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel safe and watched-over when you lie down to sleep?
