Sikhism·Raag Gauree·Shabad 149
Verse 3 of 5

With the One in Your Heart, Every Sorrow Ends

ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
charan kamal parabh ridai nivaas.
With God's Lotus Feet abiding in the heart,
ਸਗਲ ਦੂਖ ਕਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਨਾਸੁ ॥੨॥
sagal dookh kaa ho-i-aa naas. ||2||
all suffering comes to an end. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

With the nearness of the One settled in the heart, every kind of sorrow comes to an end.

With the One settled in your heart, every kind of sorrow finds its end.
The deeper layer

A two-line couplet of striking simplicity: charan kamal prabh ridai nivaas — the divine nearness "taking up residence" in the heart — and the whole result, sagal dookh kaa ho-i-aa naas, all suffering ending. The economy of the verse is the point: when the center is right, everything else settles. Presence within, peace throughout.

A Question to Sit With

What is one worry you'd love to simply feel come to an end?
