Verse 2 of 5

Let the Fear-Melting One Live in You

ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਬਸਾਹੀ ॥
bhai bhanjan parabh man na basaahee.
If God, the Destroyer of fear, does not dwell within your mind,
ਡਰਪਤ ਡਰਪਤ ਜਨਮ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
darpat darpat janam bahut jaahee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
you shall spend countless incarnations in fear and dread. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

When the One who melts away every fear lives in your mind, fear itself has no place to stay. Without that presence, worry can stretch on and on — so let the fearless One make a home in you.

Let the One who melts fear live in your mind — the shabad's assurance is that fear has nowhere left to stay.
The deeper layer

This is the center of the shabad: let the One who melts fear live in your mind.

This line is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. The name in focus is bhai bhanjan, "the breaker of fear."

The verse warns what happens without the One in mind. A person spends janam bahut, many lifetimes, in darpat darpat, fear upon fear. Yet the line's heart is an invitation: let the fear-melting One live in you. The cure matters more than the threat.

Think of a night-light in a child's room. Once it is on, the shadows lose their scariness. Fear has nowhere left to stay.

A Question to Sit With

What thought or presence, when you call it to mind, makes a fear shrink right down?
