Verse 3 of 5

Keep the Name Alive and Hopes Come to Fruit

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥
jaa kai ridai basi-o har naam.
Those who have the Lord's Name dwelling within their hearts
ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ॥੨॥
sagal manorath taa kay pooran kaam. ||2||
have all their desires and tasks fulfilled. ||2||

In plain words

Some keep the Name of the One alive in their hearts. For them, deep hopes and daily tasks alike come to fruit.

Keep the Name alive in your heart — the shabad's assurance is that both deep hopes and daily tasks come to fruit.
The deeper layer

This one says that when the Name lives in your heart, both your deep hopes and your daily work come to fruit.

Jaa kai ridai basi-o har naam — those in whose heart the Name lives. The fruit reaches everywhere. Sagal manorath taa kay pooran kaam — the heart's manorath, its deep longings, and its outer kaam, its tasks, are both fulfilled.

This is a loving reassurance, not a guarantee about how every event turns out. A settled heart spills over into the rest of life. Think of a kid who starts the day feeling loved and calm. Homework and chores often go smoother too. A heart at rest tends to find its way to finishing well.

A Question to Sit With

What is a deep hope of yours that you'd love to see quietly come true?
