Real Beauty Belongs to the Heart at Peace

ਰੂਪਵੰਤੁ ਸੋ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
roopvant so chatur si-aanaa.
They alone are handsome, clever and wise,
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥੨॥
jin jan maani-aa parabh kaa bhaanaa. ||2||
who surrender to the Will of God. ||2||

In plain words

The truly beautiful, truly clever, truly wise person is not the one with the best looks or the quickest answers.

It is the one who has made peace with the flow of existence — who accepts what is with an open heart.

Real beauty and wisdom belong to the heart that has made peace with the flow of life.
The deeper layer

The truly beautiful, clever and wise person is the one who accepts the One's Will.

Roopvant so chatur si-aanaa — they alone are roopvant, beautiful; chatur, clever; and si-aanaa, wise. Guru Arjan takes three things people prize and ties them all to one thing. Jin jan maani-aa parabh kaa bhaanaa — the one who accepts the bhaanaa, the Will of the One. Bhaanaa is close to Hukam, the flow of existence.

The wise person does not out-argue the world. They stop fighting the river's direction and learn to move with it. Think of someone in a kayak who stops paddling against the current and lets it carry the boat home.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing you've been struggling against that might feel lighter if you accepted it instead?
