The Greatest Gift Is Company That Dissolves Tangles

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਟਿ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
saaDhsang mit jaat bikaar.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, corruption is eradicated.
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਏਹੋ ਉਪਕਾਰ ॥੩॥
sabh tay ooch ayho upkaar. ||3||
This is the greatest blessing of all. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In the company of people seeking the One together, the tangled, harmful pulls inside a person quietly dissolve.

Of all the gifts one person can give another, helping them toward this is the greatest.

The greatest gift you can give someone is company that helps their tangles quietly dissolve.
The deeper layer

Saadhsang mit jaat bikaar — "in the company of the holy, the corruptions vanish." Bikaar are the distortions that pull a heart out of shape — greed, anger, the whole tangle. The pauri says good company dissolves them almost by osmosis. And then a striking line: sabh tay ooch ayho upkaar — this is the highest upkaar, the greatest good deed. The best thing you can do for someone is help them toward what steadies and frees them.

A Question to Sit With

Who helps the tangled, difficult feelings in you settle down just by being around them?
