In plain words

Such a love has grown up in me for the One who fills the whole universe — a love that has taken over my whole heart.

Through a good fortune too full to explain, I have been drawn close and joined to that love.

A love this deep is not manufactured but received — union arriving as a gift of good fortune.
The deeper layer

This verse says a deep love has woken up in the heart, and it came as a gift.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Aisee pareet govind si-o laagee — such a love has taken hold for Govind, the One who cares for the whole universe. "Such a love" is what the whole shabad is about. The verses that follow show it through loves we know from everyday life.

Mayl la-ay pooran vadbhaagee — through pooran vadbhaagee, perfect good fortune, I have been joined with the One. The joining is received as grace. It is not a prize for good work.

The verse itself says only this: the love has come, and the meeting came through good fortune. Many teachers add a thought. The heart does not build this love from nothing. It wakes up to a love that was drawing it close all along, the way a sunflower turns because the sun was already there.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever felt a love so big it seemed to come to you rather than being something you decided?
