Verse 2 of 3

Lasting Peace Flows From Remembrance, Not Getting

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਲਹੀਐ ॥
naam binaa kaisay sukh lahee-ai.
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how anyone find peace?
ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਸੁ ਕਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rasnaa raam naam jas kahee-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
With your tongue, chant the Praises of the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Without the Name of the One held in my heart, how would I ever find real peace?

So let my tongue keep speaking the praises of the One — that is where the peace comes from.

Lasting peace isn't manufactured by getting what you want — it flows from remembrance of the One.
The deeper layer

This is the Rahao, the heart-line. Naam binaa kaisay sukh lahee-ai — "without the Name, how could peace be found?" The question is genuine, not rhetorical scolding: it points to where lasting peace actually lives. Sukh — true, settled peace — is not manufactured by getting what you want, but flows from remembrance. And the practice is warm and simple: rasnaa raam naam jas kahee-ai — "with the tongue, speak the praises of the One." A gentle, loving speech that steadies the heart.

A Question to Sit With

Where does your steadiest, most settled kind of peace actually come from?
