In plain words

When a heart is colored through with love for the One, fire cannot burn it, the glitter of the world cannot trick it, deep water cannot drown it. Instead that life turns fruitful and full — like a tree heavy with good fruit.

A heart soaked in love for the One is not ruled by the things people fear.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan says a heart soaked in love for the One is not ruled by fear.

Har sang raatay means colored with the One. It is the refrain, the line that comes back again and again in this shabad. It is love soaked all the way in, not painted on the top. The four lines are not claims about fireproof skin. Fire, maa-i-aa (the glitter of the world), and drowning were the classic dangers. They lose their grip on a soul rooted in the One.

Think of a tea bag that has been steeping a long time. The color is all the way through the water. Then comes sufal falaa, fruitful and fruiting. The verse ends on plenty: a life colored in bears real fruit.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that usually scares people but feels smaller when you feel safe and loved?
