In plain words

Colored through with the One, the mind grows clear and wise, and a person's whole way of being becomes clean and bright. I would give anything for those who never let the One slip from their heart.

Keeping the One always in heart makes the mind clear and the whole self bright.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan closes with love and admiration for those who never forget the One.

Mat ootam ho-ay: the mind becomes clear and wise. Nirmal so-ay: a spotless name. Nirmal means clean, without a stain. It can mean a good reputation, but it is better read as a clean, bright way of being.

Then the tender close: tin ka-o bal jaa-ee, "I am a sacrifice to them." It means "I would give anything for them." For whom? Jin ka-o parabh mayraa bisrat naahee: those who never forget my God. Think of how you feel about a friend who always remembers your birthday. The whole shabad ends in love for such people.

A Question to Sit With

Who do you admire for the way they carry themselves, and what makes them shine?
