In plain words

Remembering, remembering, remembering the One, I have found peace. I have settled the guiding light of the teacher deep inside my heart, and let it stay there.

Returning again and again to the One in your mind grows a steady peace inside.
The deeper layer

This one says that coming back to the One again and again brings peace.

Simar simar simar sukh paa-i-aa — remembering, remembering, remembering, I found peace. Sukh means peace. Guru Arjan says "remember" three times. That is the rhythm of the mind coming back, again and again. After a while, remembering becomes the mind's resting heartbeat.

Think of learning a song on the piano. You play it over and over. One day your fingers just know it, and it plays itself.

Charan kamal gur ridai basaa-i-aa — the lotus feet of the Guru are settled in the heart. Lotus feet are a picture of loving respect. Here that respect has made a home inside, one that stays. You can think of it as the teacher's guiding light, kept in your heart for good.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you come back to over and over that leaves you feeling calm?
