The teacher, the One who holds the universe, is whole and complete; keeping that One in mind, my mind grows steady and unafraid. Night and day I hold the Name close, and because of that, all my work comes right and finds its purpose.
This one says that keeping the whole, perfect One in mind makes you steady, and makes your work come out right.
The first two lines are the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad. Gur gobind paarbarahm pooraa — the Guru, the Holder of the world, and the Supreme One are named together as pooraa, whole and complete. Tiseh araaDh mayraa man Dheeraa — holding that One in loving attention, my mind became Dheeraa. That means steady, calm, and brave.
Then comes the next verse. An-din japa-o — night and day I remember the Name. SiDh bha-ay sagal kaanm — all my work comes to its goal.
Remembering the One is not running away from life. Think of a basketball player who stays calm inside. Their shots land better, not worse. Remembering makes everyday work land the right way.
How might staying calm inside help the things you're working on turn out better?
