In plain words

So where is fear now, dear one? The One has stepped in and kept safe the honor and dignity of the one who leans on that care.

When the One keeps your dignity safe, there is nowhere left for fear to stand.
The deeper layer

This one says that when the One protects your dignity, fear has nowhere left to stand.

This is the end of the shabad. Kaho naanak kahaa bhai bhaa-ee — where is fear now, my sibling? It is a question that lets out a happy breath. The fear that pushed the seeking has nowhere left to stand.

Apnay sayvak kee aap paij rakhaa-ee — the One keeps the honor of the one who serves and trusts. Paij means honor, a person's dignity. The One keeping your honor is a theme heard in the shabads around this one too.

Think of a little kid who is scared at a new school. Then a grown-up they trust takes their hand at the door. The fear just melts.

The shabad ends in rest without fear. And its last line becomes the first picture of the very next shabad.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel truly safe, what happens to the worry you were carrying?
