Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One is the help and support of the one who trusts.
The One cares for them always, the way a father and a mother cherish their child, tenderly and without ever stopping.
The One looks after you the way a loving parent does.
This shabad opens with the same line that closed the shabad just before it, so the two are tied together. Apnay sayvak ka-o aap sahaa-ee — the One is the helper of the One's own servant.
Then the beloved picture: nit partipaarai baap jaisay maa-ee — always cherishing them, like a father and a mother. Gurbani often names both parents, not just one. That puts the tenderness and steadiness of a parent's care right at the center. Think of a parent who checks on you at night, every night, without being asked. That is the picture of how the One holds us. It sets the whole shabad in the safety of being cared for.
What does it feel like to be cared for by someone who loves you no matter what?
