In plain words

In the shelter of the One, everyone is lifted up and kept safe. That whole and true One is the Doer, the cause behind every cause.

Now the Maker lives in my mind. My fears have melted away, and my inmost self has found the deepest peace there is.

In the shelter of the One, everyone is lifted up, and fear melts into deep peace.
The deeper layer

In the shelter of the One, everyone is lifted up, and fear melts into deep peace.

This verse holds the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Parabh kee saran ubrai sabh ko-ay — in the saran, the shelter, of God, everyone is saved. Everyone! The shelter is open to all. Karan karaavan pooran sach so-ay — that whole and true One is the Doer, the cause behind every cause.

Then the verse turns inward. Ab man basi-aa karnaihaaraa — now the karnaihaaraa, the Maker, lives in my mind. Bhai binsay — the fears are gone. The aatam, the inmost self, finds sukh saaraa, the very heart of peace. Think of a storm outside while you are wrapped in a blanket at home. The safety named in the first verse becomes peace inside.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel completely safe, what happens to the fears you were holding?
