Verse 5 of 6

Everything Worth Having Lives in the Name

ਸਗਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਿ ਨਾਮ ਮਹਾ ਰਸ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
sagal padaarath asat siDh naam mahaa ras maahi.
All wealth, and the eight miraculous spiritual powers are in the supremely sublime essence of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਭਏ ਕੇਸਵਾ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
suparsan bha-ay kaysvaa say jan har gun gaahi. ||4||
Those humble beings, with whom the beautifully-haired Lord is thoroughly pleased, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||

In plain words

Every treasure, and every real power worth having, live inside the deep sweetness of the Name. Those the beautiful One is truly pleased with are the ones who sing what is lovely about the One.

Everything truly worth having lives inside the sweetness of the Name.
The deeper layer

Sagal padaarath asat sidh — all wealth and the eight sidhis (spiritual powers) — are naam mahaa ras maahi, inside the great sweetness of the Name. The point mirrors Shabad 175: everything sought elsewhere is already held in the Name. Suparsan bha-ay kaysvaa — the kaysvaa (the beautiful-haired One, a name for the divine) is well-pleased — and such ones simply har gun gaahi, sing the One's praise. Being pleasing to the One is itself the singing of love.

A Question to Sit With

What is something small that quietly holds more value than all the flashy things?
