who take the Support of the Naam. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I would give anything for those

who lean their whole lives on the Name — who make the One their one true support.

There's a special kind of admiration for people whose whole life leans on what is real and good.
The deeper layer

A short, warm Rahao of admiration: ha-o taa kai balihaaree — 'I am a sacrifice to / I would give anything for' those jaa kai kayval naam adhaaree — whose only support (adhaar) is the Naam, the living presence of the One. Note the shabad's whole gaze is turned outward and upward toward people who live this way — it is a love-song to the God-centered. The seeker isn't praising themselves; they're honoring those further along, and longing to be near them. This sets up a shabad about the beauty and gift of such lives.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone you deeply admire for the way they live — not for what they own or achieve?
