You Cross the Hardest Waters in Good Company

ਤਾਰੀਲੇ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਾਰੂ ਬਿਖੜਾ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
taareelay bhavjal taaroo bikh-rhaa bohith saaDhoo sangaa.
The treacherous and terrifying world-ocean is crossed over, in the boat of the Saadh Sangat.
ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੨॥
pooran ho-ee man kee aasaa gur bhayti-o har rangaa. ||2||
My mind's desires are fulfilled, meeting the Guru, in love with the Lord. ||2||

In plain words

The rough, wide sea of the world gets crossed safely in the sturdy boat of good company.

My heart's deepest wish came true when I met the Teacher and fell in love with the One.

You cross life's hardest waters not alone, but together, in good company.
The deeper layer

Taareelay bhavjal taaroo bikh-rhaa — the bhavjal, the difficult world-ocean, is crossed; the boat (bohith) is the saadhoo sangaa, the company of the wise. The recurring Gauree image of crossing deep water reappears, and the vessel is always good company, never solitary striving. Pooran ho-ee man kee aasaa — the mind's hope is fulfilled — gur bhayti-o har rangaa, meeting the Teacher and being colored in love for the One (rang, dye of love). The medicine of the Name, taken in good company, carries the seeker safely across.

A Question to Sit With

When something felt too big to handle by yourself, who got in the 'boat' with you?
