When the teaching plants the Name deep in someone like a living seed, they rise up untouched above the fire of endless wanting. The heat of always-needing-more may crackle all around, but they are lifted clear of it.
Jaa ka-o gur har mantar day — those to whom the teaching gives the har mantar (the Name to hold in the heart). So ubri-aa maa-i-aa agan tay — they are "lifted above the fire of maya." Maya here is the restless craving that burns; the Name is what raises the heart out of the flames. The verb ubri-aa (rose up, was buoyed) matches the shabad's recurring picture of being lifted rather than dragged down.
When does wanting-more start to feel like a fire — and what cools it for you?
