In plain words

When someone lets the Name of the Oneness slip out of mind, an ache settles in. But some gather in good company and dwell on the One. They find something vast: an ocean of goodness, deep and full.

The ache of forgetting eases in good company turned toward the good.
The deeper layer

Forgetting the One leaves an ache, and good company turned toward the One eases it.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Jaa ka-o bisrai raam naam taahoo ka-o peer — whoever forgets the Name feels peer, pain.

This ache is not a punishment. It is simply how a heart feels when it drifts away from its center. Think of a phone slowly losing charge when it is away from its plug.

The cure is saadhsangat mil har raveh. The saadhsangat is the company of good people. Together they keep the One in mind. That opens into gunee gaheer, a deep ocean of goodness.

The cure and the ocean are found in the same place: people together, turned toward the good.

A Question to Sit With

When you've drifted from what centers you, what draws you back?
