Those Gurmukhs whose hearts are filled with wisdom,
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਕਰ ਤਲ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ॥੧॥
taa kai kar tal nav niDh siDh. ||1||
hold the nine treasures, and the miraculous spiritual powers of the Siddhas in the palms of their hands. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those who face the teaching have hearts filled with true wisdom.

They hold every treasure and every wondrous power right in the palms of their hands.

A wise heart already holds, in its open palm, what striving chases everywhere.
The deeper layer

A wise heart already holds what everyone else runs around chasing.

Jaa ka-o gurmukh ridai budh — the gurmukh, the one who faces the teaching, whose heart is full of real wisdom.

Then come old pictures of great riches. Nav nidh are the nine treasures from old stories. Sidh are the wonder-powers of the siddhas, yogis famous for amazing feats. The verse piles them up, then flips the point. The wise heart already holds all of them kar tal, in the palm of its hand.

It is like searching the whole house for your glasses while they sit on your head. What the world chases so hard, a wise heart quietly already has.

A Question to Sit With

What treasure might you already be holding that you keep looking around for?
