Being Near Settled People Settles You Too

ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਵਜੀਰਾ ॥
saran pari-o thaakur vajeeraa.
I seek the Sanctuary of the Lord's Prime Minister;
ਤਿਨਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਾ ॥੩॥
tinaa daykh mayraa man Dheeraa. ||3||
beholding Him, my mind is comforted and consoled. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I have come and rested in the shelter of the Oneness's trusted helpers — the wise and holy ones who stand close to the truth. Just looking at them, being near them, my restless mind grows calm and steady. Their steadiness becomes mine.

Being near steady, settled people settles you too.
The deeper layer

Saran pari-o thaakur vajeeraa — sheltering with the Master's vajeer (minister, trusted deputy) — an image of the sant or guru as the One's near helpers, those through whom we approach the Oneness. Tinaa daykh mayraa man dheeraa — "seeing them, my mind becomes steady (dheeraa)." Steadiness here is caught, not manufactured: being near settled people settles us. This is the same "good company" thread running through the whole batch.

A Question to Sit With

Who in your life just makes you feel calmer by being there?
