In plain words

I have found the jewel of my Beloved right inside my own heart. My body feels cool and settled, my mind feels cool and soothed, and I am drawn all the way into the teaching's living word.

The treasure you're looking for may already be inside your own heart.
The deeper layer

The treasure you are looking for was inside you all along.

Paa-i-aa laal ratan man paa-i-aa — I found the jewel, I found it within my mind. This is the rahaa-o, the pause line, the center of the shabad. It announces a big discovery. What was searched for far away was within. It is like hunting the whole house for your glasses while they sit on your head.

Then comes seetal, cool. In Gurbani, cool means a heart at peace. The fever of wanting has cooled down. Satgur sabad samaa-i-aa — I am absorbed in the Guru's Word. The sabad is the Word, the teaching. Being absorbed is like a drop of water falling into a pond and becoming part of it.

The rest of the shabad shows what this discovery feels like.

A Question to Sit With

What is something valuable you already have that you sometimes look for elsewhere?
