In plain words

Have mercy on me, Great Giver of everyone, so that my whole love settles on You alone. This is my one prayer: let me keep Your Name always in my heart.

The deepest thing to ask for is not more stuff, but a heart that stays turned toward the One.
The deeper layer

The close is a simple, whole-hearted request: karahu kirpaa — "shower grace" — ayk roop liv laavhu, "let my attention rest lovingly on the One." Liv is the loving absorption of attention, the mind gently held on what it loves. And the final baynantee, "prayer," asks not for possessions but for the Naam itself — that remembrance of the One be given and kept. The whole short shabad is a movement from empty hands to a full heart, asking only for the One.

A Question to Sit With

If you could ask for just one thing to keep in your heart forever, what would it be?
