Joined to the One, I taste a quiet, natural peace — the ease of no longer being at war with things.
The pure word of the teaching clears my confusion the way clean water clears muddy water.
Instead of the thin, pale color of the world's promises that fade so fast, my heart is dyed a deep, glad crimson that holds.
One glance of grace, and the poison of grasping simply stops.
Real love colors the heart deeply, and that color does not fade.
Ik sukh maani-aa sahj milaa-i-aa — joined to the One, I enjoy peace. The peace is sahj, natural ease. It takes no effort. The soul is simply no longer fighting its own nature.
Nirmal banee bharam chukaa-i-aa — the pure Word clears away bharam, doubt and confusion.
Then comes Gurbani's favorite picture, color. Soohaa rang is a pale dye that fades fast. That is clinging to the world. Laal is a deep crimson that holds. That is real love. Think of a cheap T-shirt whose color washes out after one wash, next to a favorite one that stays bright for years.
Nadar bha-ee bikh thaak rahaa-i-aa — a glance of grace, and the poison stops. Nadar is that loving glance. It is what finally calms the grasping. It is received, not forced.
What's the difference between something that excites you for a day and something that stays with you for years?
