Without the Name, life keeps circling back to ache.
The mind that faces only itself makes Maya's glitter its whole home.
But the one who faces the teaching comes into real understanding, as an old, deep seed in them opens.
This one says that facing only yourself keeps the ache going, while facing the teaching opens real understanding.
The verse sets two ways of facing side by side. Bin naavai sabh dookh nivaas — without the Name, ache makes its home in us.
The manmukh is the self-facing mind, turned only toward its own wants. It lives in maa-i-aa, the glitter of passing things. The gurmukh faces the teaching and gains gi-aan, real understanding.
Dhur karam likhi-aas ties that understanding to what was written from the very beginning. Think of a seed planted long ago that opens when its season comes. Grace ripens in a person like that. Facing toward the teaching, not away, makes all the difference.
When you're stuck in a bad loop, what helps you turn and face something bigger than the loop?
