The Mind That Insists on Two Never Arrives Home

ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਆਖੈ ਦੋਇ ॥
doojee durmat aakhai do-ay.
The dual-minded evil intellect speaks of a second.
ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਮਰਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
aavai jaa-ay mar doojaa ho-ay. ||2||
One who harbors duality comes and goes and dies. ||2||

In plain words

When my thinking goes crooked, it insists that there really are two. There is me over here, and everything else over there.

Living inside that split feeling keeps a person restless. They are always coming and going, never quite arriving home.

The mind that insists on “two” stays restless and never arrives home.
The deeper layer

A mind that keeps splitting the world in two never feels at home.

Durmat is a bent mind, thinking that has gone crooked. It keeps saying there are two: me here, and everything else there.

Aavai jaa-ay mar doojaa ho-ay — the one who holds on to "two" comes and goes and dies. This is the old picture of being born again and again. Its heart is simple. Feeling separate makes you tired and restless.

Think of a kid who moves from room to room at a sleepover and cannot settle anywhere. Always coming and going, never quite arriving home. That is what living in the split feels like.

A Question to Sit With

Can you notice a moment today when your mind split the world into “me” and “them”?
