The Beloved Lights Everything From Inside

ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਦੇਖਉ ਦੀਪਕ ਉਜਿਆਲਾ ॥
rav sas daykh-a-u deepak uji-aalaa.
In the lamps of the sun and the moon, I see His Light.

sarab nirantar pareetam baalaa. ||4||
Dwelling among all is my ever-youthful Beloved. ||4||

In plain words

The sun is a lamp; the moon is a lamp; and by their glow I can see. But the real light, the one glowing inside every single thing without a gap, is my Beloved — ever young, never fading.

The sun and moon light the world, but the Beloved lights everything from inside.
The deeper layer

The sun and moon light up the world, but the Beloved lights everything from inside.

Rav sas daykh-a-u deepak uji-aalaa — I see the sun and the moon as lamps. A deepak is a lamp. Their light is the kind we see with our eyes.

But there is a deeper light. Sarab nirantar — in all, with no gap anywhere. The Beloved is the light glowing inside every single thing.

Preetam baalaa means the ever-young Beloved. It is one of Gurbani's gentlest names for the One. It speaks of a love that never grows old or tired. Think of a grandparent whose face lights up every single time you walk in. That love never wears out.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you love that never seems to get old or tired for you?
