In plain words

Whoever serves the One knows no other. They set down the bitter tangles of the world, and through love and truth they meet the Truest of the true.

Serve the One, set down the world’s bitter tangles, and meet the truest thing there is.
The deeper layer

Someone who serves the One gives their whole heart to it, and nothing else pulls them away.

The shabad opens by drawing a picture of such a person. Sayvaa ayk na jaanas avray — they serve the One and know no other. Parpanch bi-aadh ti-aagai kavray — they let go of the bitter tangles of the world. Parpanch means the world's many complications, all its knots and fuss. Think of a tangled pair of earphones you finally stop fighting with and set down.

Bhaa-ay milai sach saachai sach ray — through love and truth, they meet the Truest of the true. Love is the road, and the One is where it leads.

A Question to Sit With

What is a “bitter tangle” you would love to set down?
