Greed and Pride Wear the World Out

ਜਗੁ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਹਮ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਲੋਭੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
jag binsat ham daykhi-aa lobhay ahaNkaaraa.
I have seen the world being destroyed by greed and egotism.
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੪॥
gur sayvaa parabh paa-i-aa sach mukat du-aaraa. ||4||
Only by serving the Guru is God obtained, and the true gate of liberation found. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I have watched the world wear itself out through greed and pride. But by humbly walking with the teaching, the One is found, and the true doorway to freedom opens.

Greed and pride wear the world out; humbly walking the teaching opens the true door to freedom.
The deeper layer

Jag binsat ham daykhi-aa — "I have seen the world being worn down" — by lobh (greed) and ahankaar (pride), the two great engines of haumai. Against that exhaustion, the door: gur sayvaa prabh paa-i-aa — through humble service to the teaching the One is found — and sach mukat du-aaraa, the true gate of mukti, liberation. Freedom here is not escape from the world but release from the greed-and-pride that grind it down. The doorway is real (sach), not another illusion.
