Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
When the One turns a glance of grace toward us, we settle into the very lap of goodness. And Nanak says: once you rest there, that closeness is never broken — you have found the truest gain of all.
The closing rests on nadar — the Glance of Grace — which sets one gun ank samaavai, into the lap of virtue, held like a child. Then the promise: mayl na chook-ee — this union does not break; unlike everything that passed away earlier in the hymn, this holds. Laahaa sach paavai — the true profit is gained, the one gain that does not wash off. The bucket rose and fell; the Giver gave and received; and here, at last, the soul is simply gathered up and kept. The signature ||8||1||17|| closes the seventeenth hymn.
What does it feel like to be held by someone whose care for you will not break, no matter what?
