Rest Love on Truth and the Me-First Burns Away

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
gurmukh saach rahi-aa liv laa-ay.
The Gurmukhs keep their consciousness lovingly centered on the Lord.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
ha-umai maa-i-aa sabad jalaa-ay.
Ego and Maya are burned away by the Word of the Shabad.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੬॥
mayraa parabh saachaa mayl milaa-ay. ||6||
My True God unites them in His Union. ||6||

In plain words

The teaching-facing heart keeps its love resting on the truth. Through the Word, the "me-first" voice and the pull of the shimmering world quietly burn away. And the True One draws that heart into itself, a joining that feels like coming home.

Rest your love on the truth, and the "me-first" voice burns away as the One draws you home.
The deeper layer

This one says that resting your love on truth lets the me-first voice burn away, and the One draws you home.

Gurmukh saach rahi-aa liv laa-ay — the gurmukh, the one who faces the teaching, keeps their love and attention resting on saach, truth.

Ha-umai maa-i-aa sabad jalaa-ay — ha-umai, the me-first ego, and the pull of maa-i-aa, the shimmering world, are burned away by the sabad, the Word. The fire here cleans. It is not a punishment. Think of the sun drying a wet towel on the line. The damp just goes.

Mayraa parabh saachaa mayl milaa-ay — my True One joins them in union. The joining is done by the One, and it feels like coming home. The shining truth of the verse before now becomes union.

A Question to Sit With

What does "coming home" to yourself feel like after a scattered, distracted stretch?
