Verse 7 of 9

To a Loving Heart, the Word Tastes Sweet

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੀਠੀ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
gurmukh banee meethee laagee.
To the Gurmukhs, the Word of God's Bani seems so sweet.
ਅੰਤਰੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
antar bigsai an-din liv laagee.
Deep within, their hearts blossom forth; night and day, they lovingly center themselves on the Lord.
ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ॥
sehjay sach mili-aa parsaadee.
The True Lord is intuitively obtained, by His Grace.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪੂਰੈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੬॥
satgur paa-i-aa poorai vadbhaagee. ||6||
The True Guru is obtained by the destiny of perfect good fortune. ||6||

In plain words

To a heart that loves the teaching, the Word tastes sweet, and something inside blossoms — day and night, it leans toward the One. Easily and naturally, by grace, it meets the truth. And by a deep good fortune, it finds the true teacher.

To a loving heart the Word tastes sweet, something blossoms inside, and truth is met with natural ease.
The deeper layer

To a loving heart, the Word tastes sweet, and something inside begins to bloom.

Gurmukh banee meethee laagee — the banee, the Guru's Word, tastes meethee, sweet, to the one who faces the Guru. Antar bigsai — something inside blossoms. That opening is called vigaas. Day and night, the heart leans toward the One. That leaning is liv laagee.

Sehjay sach mili-aa parsaadee — the True One is met sahaj, naturally, and parsaadee, by grace. Ease and grace together, never strain. Think of a flower opening in the sun. It does not push. It just opens.

Poorai vadbhaagee — finding the true teacher is great good fortune, a gift.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that "blossoms" inside you — makes you feel more open and alive — when you turn toward it?
