Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The "me-first" voice, the tight sense of *mine*, the crooked thinking and the ache that trails them — all of it fades.
It fades the moment the Name, the ocean of every goodness, settles in your heart.
Then a clear wisdom wakes up in you, and you find yourself praising the One.
The One's gentle presence rests right inside.
When the Name comes to live in the heart, the "me-first" voice and its hurt fade, and clear thinking wakes up.
Haumai mamtaa durmat dukh naas — four things melt away. Haumai is ego, the me-first feeling. Mamtaa is the grip of "mine." Durmat is crooked thinking. Dukh is the pain that trails behind them.
And when does this happen? When raam naam guntaas lives in the heart. The Name is guntaas, an ocean of every good quality.
Then gurmukh budh pargatee — a clear budh, wisdom, wakes up. Charan nivaas, "the Lotus Feet dwelling within," is a picture of the One's gentle presence resting inside. It is about nearness, not about who is above whom.
Think of turning on a light in a messy room. You do not scrub the dark away first. The light comes, and the dark is gone. Healing follows the Name's arrival, not our straining.
What feelings tend to travel together for you — and what helps the whole bundle settle at once?
