Reverent Awe Cools Wanting and Reveals the One

ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਜਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਉ ਖਾਇ ॥
man bairaagee jaa sabad bha-o khaa-ay.
The mind becomes detached and free of desire, when it experiences the Fear of God, through the Shabad.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਸਭ ਤੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
mayraa parabh nirmalaa sabh tai rahi-aa samaa-ay.
My Immaculate God is pervading and contained among all.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
gur kirpaa tay milai milaa-ay. ||2||
By Guru's Grace, one is united in His Union. ||2||

In plain words

The mind grows calm and free of endless wanting the moment reverent awe touches it through the Word. My spotless One is present everywhere, in everything and everyone. And by grace — always here — the meeting happens, one heart joined to the whole.

Reverent awe cools endless wanting — and reveals the One present in everything and everyone.
The deeper layer

When awe touches the mind, endless wanting cools down.

Man bairaagee jaa sabad bha-o khaa-ay — the mind becomes bairaagee when bha-o, reverent awe, touches it through the Word. Bairaagee means unclinging, free of craving. Here again, awe cools restless wanting. It is like how a long wish list fades when you stand under a huge starry sky.

Mayraa parabh nirmalaa sabh tai rahi-aa samaa-ay — my pure One fills everything. The One is everywhere and in everyone. This oneness leaves nothing and no one out.

Gur kirpaa tay milai milaa-ay — by kirpaa, grace, the meeting comes. The union is received like a gift. It is never forced.

A Question to Sit With

If the same One were present in everyone you meet today, how might you treat them differently?
