In plain words

Whoever overcomes it is truly rich. Whoever overcomes it is truly honored.

Whoever overcomes it is a true master of their own self. Whoever overcomes it finds their way to a freedom that lasts.

Real wealth, honor, and self-mastery belong to the one who has dissolved the sense of separation.
The deeper layer

This one says real wealth and real honor belong to the person who has healed the split inside.

Guru Arjan gives new meanings to the world's prize words.

Dhanvantaa means wealthy. Pativantaa means honored. Jatee means self-disciplined, master of oneself. Gatee means freedom.

Each of these, he says, belongs to one kind of person. It is not the one with the most things. It is not the one with the strictest rules for the body. It is the one who has let go of dubidhaa, the sense of being split from the One.

Think of a scoreboard at a game. The world keeps score with money, likes and trophies. This verse quietly flips the scoreboard over.

Real wealth, real honor and real self-mastery are all things that live inside.

A Question to Sit With

What does the world call 'rich' or 'important' -- and what might really deserve those words?
