Conquer Separation and Be Free While Fully Alive

ਜੋ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਸੁ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥

One who kills this is Jivan Mukta, liberated while yet alive.
ਜੋ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥
jo is maaray tis kee nirmal jugtaa.
One who kills this lives a pure lifestyle.
ਜੋ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਗਿਆਨੀ ॥

One who kills this is spiritually wise.
ਜੋ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਸੁ ਸਹਜ ਧਿਆਨੀ ॥੫॥
jo is maaray so sahj Dhi-aanee. ||5||
One who kills this meditates intuitively. ||5||

In plain words

Whoever overcomes it is free even while fully alive. Whoever overcomes it lives a way of life that turns clean and clear.

Whoever overcomes it grows truly wise. Whoever overcomes it rests in a natural, easy stillness of attention.

Conquer the sense of separation and you are free while fully alive -- clear, wise, and at natural ease.
The deeper layer

This one says you can be free right now, while you are fully alive.

The key words are jeevan muktaa, "free while still alive." Jeevan means life. Mukat means free. In Sikhi, freedom is not a prize waiting after death. It is a way of being here and now, open to anyone living.

Think of a bird whose cage door is already open. It does not need to wait for anything. It can fly today.

The verse names the signs of this freedom. Nirmal jugtaa is a clean, clear way of living. Sugi-aanee means truly wise. Sahj Dhi-aanee means meditating in sahaj, a natural, easy calm that needs no forcing.

To overcome dubidhaa, the split from the One, is simply to become free, awake and at ease. Today.

A Question to Sit With

What would 'being free' look like in your ordinary, everyday life -- not someday, but now?
