ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
gur kai bachan keeno raaj jog.
Through the Guru's Word, I practice Raja Yoga, the Yoga of meditation and success.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਲੋਗੁ ॥੫॥
gur kai sang tari-aa sabh log. ||5||
In the Company of the Guru, all the people of the world are saved. ||5||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The teaching showed me how to rule myself the way a wise ruler cares for a whole land — steady, awake, in charge of my own mind. And keeping such company doesn't just lift me; it lifts everyone around me too.
Learning to steer your own mind well quietly lifts everyone around you too.
Raaj jog ("royal yoga") is the ideal of mastery-in-the-midst-of-life — sovereignty over one's own mind rather than escape from the world. The second line, tari-aa sabh log ("all people are carried across"), widens the circle: the aligned person becomes a blessing to the whole community, not a solitary saint. This is the householder-ideal central to Sikhi.
A Question to Sit With
How does one calm, steady person change the mood of a whole room?
