Soaked in Love, You Cross and Carry Others Too

ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸੋ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਿਓ ॥
jin sayvi-aa so paar pari-o.
One who serves the Lord crosses over to the other side.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਿਓ ॥੮॥੧॥੧੩॥
jan naanak gurmukh jagat tari-o. ||8||1||13||
O servant Nanak, the Gurmukh saves the world. ||8||1||13||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whoever gives themselves to the One crosses safely to the far shore. Turned toward the teaching, such a person doesn't just save themselves — they help carry the whole world across.

The person soaked through with love doesn't just cross over — they help carry others too.
The deeper layer

Whoever serves the One crosses to the far shore, and helps carry the whole world across too.

Jin sayvi-aa so paar pari-o — whoever serves crosses over to the other side. Jan naanak gurmukh jagat tari-o — servant Nanak says, the gurmukh, the one turned toward the teaching, carries the world across.

The song ends on its widest note. The person dyed through with love does not escape alone. They help others across too. Think of a strong swimmer who helps friends reach the shore. This is the saint who lives among family and neighbors and blesses the whole community.

A Question to Sit With

How could becoming your best self actually help the people around you?
