In plain words

The day my heart finally rested at the feet of the One — blessed, blessed was that day.

After wandering all over, in every direction, searching and searching, mercy reached me, and at last I saw clearly what I had been looking for.

Living cleanly and keeping the One in mind, the feeling of being separate melts away. In the Sangat, the mind grows clear and bright. The worries quiet down, and only the One is seen — Nanak says, by anyone whose eyes have been touched with the healing sight of understanding.

After all the wandering and searching, mercy reaches you — and the day your heart finally rests in the One is a blessed day.
The deeper layer

Chacha is a joy-of-arrival Pauri. Its refrain-word is dhan dhan — "blessed, blessed is that day" — when the heart became attached (laagaa) to the charan kamal. The long wandering "in the four quarters and ten directions" that opened this stretch (Pauri 33) is now resolved: after all the searching, kirpaa... darshan — mercy, then the clear seeing. Binsi-o sabh doo-aa — "duality is removed" — means the feeling of being separate melts away (haumai dissolving), and in the saadhsang, the Sangat, the mind becomes clear. The closing image is gian anjan — the "ointment of spiritual wisdom" anointing the eyes — the healing sight of understanding: understanding pictured as eye-medicine that lets you finally see the One everywhere and let the anxieties go.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever searched hard for something, only to find it was near the whole time? What did that feel like?
